People often point out that overt racists are only a small portion of the GOP. But this quote, taken from Amy Davidson’s latest piece in the New Yorker, argues that anti-Muslim bigotry is widespread and perhaps even more prevalent than support for either of the two Islamaphobic political candidates.
“In many of the states that have so far held primaries or caucuses, exit pollers have asked Republican voters if they agreed with Trump’s proposal to temporarily bar all non-citizen Muslims from entering the United States. In every case, the number of people who said yes (sixty-two per cent in Michigan, seventy-eight per cent in Alabama) was greater than the number who voted for Trump. Often, it was greater than the number of voters for Cruz and Trump combined.” [link]
